The third stage of O-Ringen was planned to take place in Östuna. The area is now being attacked by bark beetles. Due to these attacks but also planned forestry in large parts of the intended competition area, large felling and thinning will be done before next summer.
The uncertainty regarding map revisions and paving in the stage area in Östuna will therefore be great and the solution will be that stage 3 will move to Norra Lunsen and Arena Sävja.
-We are very pleased to be able to offer even more Lunsen to our participants, says Jens Lindquist, project manager for O-Ringen Uppsala. The area offers extremely nice terrain that we have not previously accessed on stages 4 and 5 from the Flottsund arena, he continues.
However, the map for Östuna is not lost, it will be possible to run in those parts that are not affected by felling as the map becomes part of the training package that will be available in spring of 2021 as training for O-Ringen Uppsala.
The change only affects OL as MTBO and TrailO have stage 3 in Stadsskogen and Arena Kåboängen. One impact that the relocation of the arena also contributes to is that the training race moves from Sävja IP and probably to Hammarskog or Stenhagen. The Elite Tour runners will also be affected as they will now have their stage 2 on Tuesday and race-free on Thursday instead of race-free on Tuesday.
A positive effect of the arena relocation is that there is now cycling distance to all stages from the O-Ringen city. Sustainable and fully in line with the climate city and the cycling city Uppsala that hosts O-Ringen 2021!
