And suddenly the party was over! The whole week felt like a party and as icing on the cake we had the pursuit today. It was a joy standing at the finish line seeing the different reactions from the participants. One time happiness, the other time someone was crying, and another one was angry. I felt for the ones who started first and got passed just at the end.
The last day of O-Ringen was dramatic and emotional! But also time to reflect about the past week. Sälen has once again showed that it is perfect region to host big events like this. 20 000 competitors, around 100 000 starts, more than a thousand organizers from 17 different clubs have made sure this arrangement was a success.
With about 60 000 beds in cabins and hotels, Sälen has a big capacity. Even if it takes a while until O-Ringen is in Sälen again, I am convinced that they are already making plans for more big arrangements to the region.
With all the respect for the competitors, but the real heroes of O-Ringen is all the people who has put in a lot of time and effort in this event an now they can credit with the payment from the organizers. The money will be very welcome in the clubs.
Many companies and organizations have realized that Dalarna has a high attraction. There is no coincidence that they want to be seen with the orienteerers. Visit Dalarna has had a big tent during the week. That’s good, since Dalarna has to develop the tourist industry.
The tourism industry is already an important factor, but it can get better. O-Ringen with all its participants and their companions and other visitors has been an almost unbeatable place to make new contacts.
