O-Ringen 2012 officially opened!

During the opening ceremony young orienteers entered the arena with the 42 represented countries' flags. The weather showed its best side and you could comfortably settle in the sun to listen to the inaugural speeches and look at the entertainer Max Normal with his perhaps not so normal show.

With less than one months until O-ringen in Halland takes place we have more the 14 000 runners registered. There's a great interest for this years O-Ringen and with this great interest it will be a great orienteering festival in Halmstad. With these numbers at the last registration stop, it indicates a forecast up to 18 000 participants at this year's O-ringen, says the O-Ringen manager Mark Baljeu.

Free start times for the adult short classes

Free start times on the adult short classes are being introduced at the O-Ringen Halland, from HD35 and up. This is in order to increase the freedom for all parents, who want to run technically harder courses than the motion classes and at the same time be able to take care of their children and the juniors in their clubs in the best way.

Definite continuation for MTB-O in 2012 & 2013

In 2011 the MTB-O took place during the O-Ringen for the first time as a ”come and try it” activity. Stage 1 was held on the Tuesday afternoon on the activity day and stage 2 was on the Wednesday evening after the ordinary stage. The aim was for the MTB-O to reach 150 participants in order for it to continue and as the interest was considerably higher than this, with apx 250 starters per day, it will definitely continue in 2012.

The first entries deadline for the O-Ringen Halland 2012 closes on 1st November. Compared to previous years the entry numbers look promising, even with a few days left. The interest levels haven't been this high this early in the year since the O-Ringen Sälen 2008.

New and harder programme for MW21 Elite

O-Ringen's elite classes in MW21 have a new programme next year, compared to previous years plans. Instead of two sprint distances there is now only one. This is in order to offer those who haven't competed in WOC the week before a tougher challenge and in order to make the most of the fine terrain in Simlångsdalen.
