Christmas is approaching...

Gratifying times for many

The first entry period is now over and the organisers in Örebro look at the entry numbers with pleasure.  On the 1st of November there were 4574 entered participants, which is a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.

We welcome everyone to Örebro and the entry numbers give us confidence that we are heading in the right direction.  It has given us the motivation to work even harder in order to offer good competitions where everyone can enjoy themselves, says Hans Hacksell, the general secretary.

The winners from the web-competition have also gladly received a free start place 2010.  We have also appointed other prize winners who will receive Örebrospel.  The winners and the right answers to the competition can be found here.

Another enjoyable moment arrives in December when we begin 2009 Christmas celebrations and what is better than to give away an O-Ringen start place to someone that you care about.  Everyone can participate in the O-RIngen, young and old, beginners as well as veterans and with this years new O-Ringen Challenge there is something for everyone! Contact our office if you want to give away a start place as a christmas present.

Success of Junior Camp continues

The O-Ringen Academy and Hallsberg's Orienteering college are offering a camp in tiomila terrain from 2006 before the O-Ringen 21st - 23rd July.

The Junior Camp is an international training camp for juniors and younger seniors, 50 orienteers from 11 nations participated in 2009.  Juniors from across the world that want to learn to orienteer in Nordic terrain have the perfect opportunity a few days before the O-Ringen starts.  A training camp will be arranged from Wednesday to Friday evening, offering five training opportunities and one lecture.  This doesn't require elite committment.  All juniors, irrespective of skills, are welcome.
The number of places have increased for 2010 with 65 beds and on top of this there is floor space as well.  The camp is arranged in Knottebo, about 40km south of Örebro, just outside Åsbro Read more>

O-Ringen 2010 more than just orienteering

Of course the competitions are most important when you come to the O-Ringen, but there is so much more to experience with the large town of Örebro so close by.
We are focusing on making the O-Ringen town square an enjoyable assembly point, where you as orienteers, as well as the locals in Örebro, can experience the spirit.  In connection to the square you will find the sport tent with its rich selection and a food shop with a really good range.  If you are hungry there is not just one but two restaurants with star cooks who promise a wide range.
For those of you who haven't had enough after the days competition there are a lot of activities in the area, a golfcourse that offers Pay and Play, the adventure pool Gustavsvik, Backahallen where you can play tennis and other racket sports and Karlsdals gård for those who want to go riding.
We are also putting extra focus on the youths by organising a youth centre in a local school.  There will be computers, exciting activities or it is possible to just hang out with friends.
Our aim is to, together with Örebro town, offer a wide range that suits all ages and all tastes.  In the next number we will widen you views of the central areas of Örebro.
