The first stage of the O-Ringen 5-days in Mountain Bike Orienteering takes place amongst the open pine forest in Brandsbol, about 60 kilometers north of Arvika.
The arena is located in the middle of the great Värmland woods, at the Brandsbol sports complex, and right next to the beaches and campgrounds on lake Grässjön. The terrain consists mostly of open pine forest with a thin layer of grass covering the sand underfoot. The eastern part of the map contains a steep slope dropping almost 50 meters down to the Rottnan river. This steep slope combined with a large number of fast trails and roads will make for a speedy MTBO race featuring a number of tricky route choices.
MTBO races normally use a normal foot-orienteering map that has been converted to the MTBO mapping standard. However, in this case, a whole new map has been created just for this MTBO races. As a result, competitors will see a very long map that stretches a full six kilometers from north to south, allowing for many great route choices and control locations, befitting a long distance MTBO race.
