During Stages 3 and 4 you will get a chance to run through the majestic forest Bodafjället that climbs to over 300 meters above sea level.
The hillsides and ridges overlooking the arena are covered by pine trees and blueberry bushes and offer highly detailed terrain. The ridges are separated by steeper slopes, covered with dense forest and traversed by babbling brooks. Up on the hilltops you will find wide marshes interspersed with open forest. These areas will offer fast running and relatively few contour features to help in your orienteering. Stages 3 and 4 will provide you with challenging orienteering in wild and beautiful terrain.
The arena is located in the village of Boda. People have lived here throughout history, and the village’s name has been mentioned in writing as early as the 1500’s. Several artifacts from the Middle Ages have been found near the village, including a silver gilded buckle and two golden pendants.
On the way to the start during both Stages 3 and 4, runners will walk along the old Dal-Västra Värmlands Railroad, which had a stop in Boda until 1985.
Prior to O-Ringen 2017, this area was most recently mapped in 1988, so this will be a new experience for most competitors.
