Swimming areas

When the sun is shining, it’s time to make your way to one of the many swimming areas in the city. Uppsala and its surroundings are teeming with little coves and lakes where you can swim, play and get some sun. Beaches and grassy spaces intertwine with large rocks and jetties that jut out into the water.

About 10 minutes by bicycle from the O-Ringen Square, in the south of Uppsala, at Lake Ekoln, you will find the Lyssnaängen swimming area. There’s a large grassy area for sunbathing and a beach with jetties for swimming delight. You will also find a barbecue area, kiosk and public toilets. The swimming area is handicapped accessible.

Wik Castle is located in a scenic area close to Lårstavikens strand. In the Wik Castle area you will find a beach for swimming along with lovely walks, well-kept green areas, hotel buildings, as well as the beautiful mediaeval castle – perfect for a day trip and a cup of coffee in their summer café.

You can also take the Upsala-Lenna Heritage Railway to the summer paradise Fjällnora, where there is a swimming area and nice outdoor areas.

Other swimming areas in and around Uppsala are Hammarskogsbadet, Borgardalsbadet outside Länna and Storvad's bathing area in Fyrisån near Gamla Uppsala. In Knivsta you will find both Särstabadet and Brunnbybadet in Lake Valloxen.

A little further away, but well worth the trip, you can swim in the sea outside Östhammar and Öregrund.

In Uppsala you also fins the Fyrishov Water Park, one of Sweden’s largest pool areas. The tropical water park, with 30-degree water, features water slides, a jet stream, waterfalls, water cannons, bubble pools and much more fun for the whole family. If you want a more quiet alternative you can go to Gottsundabadet.
