How I started with orienteering - annichen kringstad
For me it began in a classic way, it was my parents who took me and several of my four siblings on the beginner's course in Säffle OK. I grew up in an active family. Even as small children, we were often out in the forest on foot or on skis. Both my parents had also been racing as young active in sports, my mother in athletics and my dad in orienteering.
So when I was 11, it was time for the beginner's course. With an active childhood my absolute strength, even as a small was the running. But the orienteering technics was not so easy, I was certainly no child star. The times when the controls was standing in the way, I could get a good position, but more often when they did not, I could be far back in the results list.
I remember a camp we had in the club, actually think that the results of this still exists in Säffles clubhouse. Browse through it can be concluded that there was a girl who was last in the results broadly in all the exercises, Annichen.
So it was not success in the competitions that made me continue with orienteering, it was the family and later my friends in Säffle OK. We really had a good time when we were out om competitions, training weekends and camps together.
