Arena högfjällshotellet

The first three stages take place at three different areas of mountain terrain at arena Högfjällshotellet

Stage 1. Long distance The area north of arena Högfjällshotellet. The majority of courses will pass Kungsleden, “The King’s Trail”. The level of detail is varied, placing a variety of demands on orienteering skills. Gently to moderately climb.

Stage 2. Long distance The area south and south west of arena Högfjällshotellet. Brilliantly varied terrain awaits, with open mountain and mountain slopes merging into subalpine forest. Good to very good visibility and runability. The level of detail is also varied, giving the opportunity to use different orienteering techniques.

Stage 3. Middle distance The area east and south east of arena Högfjällshotellet. The third day on the mountain, with varied terrain like that in Stage 2. The difference is that the majority of courses pass through areas of mountain birch forest.

Arena Lindvallen

The arena at Lindvallen is right beside Experium and the O-Ringen Square. The final two stages offer a variety of challenges, from mountain orienteering to Dalarna forest terrain.

Stage 4. Long distance The area above Lindvallen is also called Sälfjället. Three ski lifts transport competitors up Sälfjället to the start. The race area stretches over Sälfjället and towards Hemfjället. A great variation, with more marshes than in earlier stages.

Stage 5. Long distance Forest terrain. A stage featuring real Dalarna terrain. With marshes, bilberry bushes and a slope demanding a completely different orienteering technique to the earlier stages.

O-Ringen in Sälen 2016 offers highly varied terrain and challenging orienteering - dream orienteering in the mountains.
