TBE is a viral disease spread by ticks that can cause an inflammation of the brain, meninges or both. Most people who get infected have mild problems with fever and headaches and get healthy after a few days, but up to one-third get brain inflammation or meningitis.
The virus is found mainly in Stockholm County, Södermanland County, Uppsala County Coastal Areas. and the central and eastern parts of the Mälar region. But over the past ten years, more and more people have been infected and the geographical range of TBE viruses has increased. Examples include areas around Lake Vänern and Vättern, the Gothenburg area and areas in eastern Skåne. You can protect yourself from the disease by vaccination. Children may receive the vaccination from the age of one year.
During O-Ringen you can vaccinate yourself against the TBE at the Participant Service, O-Ringentorget on 19th and 20th of July 8:00 am - 5 pm and at the Yxbacken Arena on July 27th 8:00 am - 4 pm.
