If you're "starstruck", Sälen 2016 is a great opportunity to get close to the elite. There are already many of the worlds best runners entried, even though there are a few months until the competition starts.
- O-Ringen is an event which main focus is to attract many people, not just the best. Thousands of common orienteerers are coming and we want them all to feel very welcome. But if the best also wants to partricipate, we see it as icing on the cake. Both elite and common orienteerers in the same competition, it's fantastic! This is the words of Jimmy Birklin, secretary-general of the competitions in Sälen 2016.
Right now, the former world champion in sprint-orienteering is experiencing a high interest from orienteerers around the world. With two and a half months until the first start, O-Ringen in Sälen is about to break the old record of participants from O-Ringen in Falun 1985.
O-Ringen takes place in Sälen between the 23th and 29th of July, and the stages will be at Högfjällshotellet and Lindvallen. The competitors will run at many of the classic mountains, such as Köarskalsfjället, Storfjället and Sälfjället.
The elite classes are filled with reigning world champions and former medalists in the world championships. The best runners are from different countries, such as Sweden with Tove Alexandersson and Sara Hagström, to mention a few, Norway with Ann-Margerethe Hausken Nordberg and Magne Daehli, Finland with Olli Ojanaho and France with Thierry Gueorgiou. There are going to be participants from a total of 30 different countries.
- The world championship is in Sweden in August, which means that many of the best runners in the world are chosing to combine training and competition in Swedish terrain in the mountains of Dalarna at O-Ringen in Sälen, says a pleased Jimmy Birklin.
