During O-Ringen in Sälen in summer 2016, the mountain bike orienteering (MTBO) competitions will be staged in the terrain around Rörbäcksnäs in northern Dalarna. We’ve been testing the terrain.
“We are very glad that we can offer participants from all over the world a chance to compete at Rörbäcksnäs. This is Sweden’s best forest for cycling and it provides fantastic MTBO terrain. I can promise that nobody will go home disappointed,” comments race director Annika Engström.
“We tested parts of the area this summer and we can now give a taster with the following film clip.”
The forests around Rörbäcksnäs are home to a fantastic track network for cycling through both forest and open land. In collaboration with Rörbäcksnäs IS, O-Ringen 2016 in Sälen has chosen to stage all three MTBO competitions in this small settlement on the Norwegian border.
The terrain is a mixture of heath land with pleasant tracks, small-scale agriculture, small roads passing through farmyards and gravel tracks offering high-speed riding. Three days of competition in wonderful forest at Rörbäcksnäs and two training areas in mountain terrain can give MTBO competitors a real dream week at O-Ringen 2016.
O-Ringen 2016 in Sälen is organised by 18 orienteering clubs from Dalarna. The competitions are expected to attract around 25,000 participants.
The MTBO competitions in Rörbäcksnäs are expected to have 1,500 starts.
