Sweden’s WOC team have now confirmed their attendance at O-Ringen in Sälen next summer. “Sälen will be the perfect springboard and a fantastic opportunity to reach top form ahead of WOC. I’m looking forward to tough training and competitions in mountain terrain,” says Håkan Carlsson, head coach of the Swedish orienteering team.
O-Ringen in Sälen will be held between 23rd and 29th July with competitions at Högfjällshotellet and Lindvallen, Sälen. Meanwhile, MTBO and Trail-O competitions will be held at Rörbäcksnäs and Hundfjället.
Almost 25,000 people from all over the world are expected to come to next summer’s big festival of sport in the Swedish mountains. This could make O-Ringen in Sälen the biggest orienteering event ever.
Among those who don’t want to miss the chance to take part in the festival are members of the Swedish WOC team. As one step towards reaching peak form ahead of a home World Championships in Strömstad/Tanum later in the autumn, the blue and yellows have chosen to stage part of their build-up in Sälen.
“We know that there’ll be great maps, serious training and competitions, good accommodation and wonderful mountain surroundings. The WOC team will also be present for some days before the start of O-Ringen, a chance to be together and to meet our supporters before, during and after the competitions,” explains Håkan.
Many international runners from other countries are expected to join the Swedes and O-Ringen 2016 will certainly provide exciting showdowns and a build-up to WOC in Sweden.
17 Dalarna orienteering clubs form the team behind O-Ringen 2016 in Sälen, from Ludvika in the south to Särna in the north. The aim of these Dalarna clubs is to organise the biggest and best O-Ringen ever.
