There is great interest ahead of the year’s big festival, O-Ringen, which will take place for the fifty-first time. A whole 11 020 participants registered before the entry on June 1st. A good figure, which means we can expect upwards of 16-17,000 participants at this year's O-Ringen in Borås.
“This figure is really pleasing,” says General Secretary Maria Krafft Helgesson.
Maria also notes with satisfaction that there is huge interest from other countries - more than 25% of the entries are international guests from more than 40 nations. One example is Switzerland, with 450 runners registered so far.
O-Ringen has found a concept that attracts many participants every year. Borås and the surrounding area will offer some real orienteering challenges with three of the stages in the city of Borås itself, at the Kransmossen and Borås Arena. The other two stages will be held in the municipalities of Mark and Tranemo. An exciting combination that seems to suit many people.
Talking of registration, it may also be noted that 1,900 camping spaces have been booked. The camping and O-Ringen City will be situated adjacent to Nordskogen, just north of Borås Zoo, conveniently close to central Borås.
A couple of months ago, preparations were disrupted because rental costs were too high in many cases and the organizers were afraid this would deter participants. They informed the media of their concerns, with a positive effect. For some time now the price of renting has been more reasonable.
“Of course, it feels great. But we still need more accommodation and we would like those in the Borås region to make their properties available to rent. Motorhomes are in great demand,” says Maria Krafft Helgesson.
It is possible to submit a late registration until July 18 or enter on site during the week. Until then, we can safely assume that many more runners will register and will want to experience the fifty-first edition of O-Ringen in Borås!
